How to Make Southern Cornbread

Before we talk about making Southern Cornbread Dressing or Stuffing for your Thanksgiving turkey, we have to talk about the foundation which is homemade cornbread! The cornbread we are discussing today is absolutely delicious and simple to make. It is perfect as a stand alone side or as a part of your favorite southern meal!

WHAT YOU’LL NEED:

8 x 8 baking dish

1 medium mixing bowl

1 mixing spoon

Measuring cups & spoons

INGREDIENTS:

1 stick of Butter

1 1/2 tablespoons – Sugar

2 cups – Self-Rising Buttermilk Cornmeal Mix

1 1/3 cups – Milk

1 large egg

INSTRUCTIONS:

Preheat the oven to 450 degrees. Place butter in the baking dish and place the baking dish in the oven until the butter is completely melted.

Grab your mixing bowl and scramble your egg. Pour in all of the dry ingredients (cornmeal and sugar). Slowly pour in milk as your stir. Mix in milk until no clumps exist. Set aside the mixture and check on the butter.

Pour batter directly into butter. DO NOT STIR.

Wet Cornbread mix in butter

Place in the oven for 27 – 30 minutes until the cornbread is golden brown.
